Janet Edelstein of BookSmiles

Janet C. Edelstein, an attorney in Flaster Greenberg’s Trusts & Estates Practice Group, was featured on CBS Philly for her work as a volunteer and board member of BookSmiles, a non-profit organization aimed at giving underserved children in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs the opportunity to build personal libraries.

As a board member, Edelstein is responsible for developing and maintaining book acquisition and fundraising in Philadelphia's Pennsylvania suburbs. Throughout the course of the pandemic, Edelstein has been instrumental in building support for BookSmiles’ growing Pennsylvania operations. Over the past few months, Edelstein collected and boxed over 12,000 children's books to be distributed to book deserts in the metropolitan Philadelphia area.

ABOUT BOOKSMILES:

BookSmiles gives underserved children in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs the opportunity to build personal libraries, starting at infancy. They focus on providing students and younger siblings with high-quality books, thereby laying the groundwork for great literacy skills before and during the elementary school years.  They also provide educators, especially those serving Title 1 schools, with unlimited books for their classroom libraries as well as for their students' personal collections.
