Paula A. Sarmiento, Ph.D., serves as a technical advisor to the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. She utilizes her extensive experience in biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, and data science to support complex, data-driven patent prosecution and litigation matters.
Paula’s multidisciplinary background spanning biomedical and chemical engineering includes extensive experience in biomaterials, tissue engineering and characterization, and quantitative analysis that helps her accurately translate complex scientific concepts into clear, strategically crafted patent applications and effectively evaluate the technical merits of innovations throughout the prosecution process.
Through her Ph.D. work in biomedical engineering at Purdue University, she has developed deep skills in omics analysis, cell and tissue characterization, and biomaterials, alongside hands-on experience with complex data integration and biostatistics.
Her work as a graduate assistant and researcher further sharpened her ability to analyze both qualitative and quantitative data, evaluate technical materials, and communicate complex concepts clearly.
Combined with her applied data science experience across industry projects, Paula is well-equipped to assess the scientific validity of innovations, distill highly technical information, and support the development of precise, strategically positioned patent applications.
She has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in areas including biomaterials and tissue engineering.
Paula is fluent in Spanish and lecturers at Indiana University Indianapolis Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering on biomedical engineering and informatics.
