Karina N. Calliste is an attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department and Patent Practice Group. She brings over a decade of experience in the IP field, having worked first as a patent agent and now as an attorney. Her practice focuses on U.S. and international patent prosecution, patent portfolio development, patentability assessments, due diligence, and strategic counseling across a broad range of technologies, including semiconductor devices, software, wireless communications, optics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and medical devices.
Karina began her IP career at a leading intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C., where she worked full-time as a patent agent while earning her J.D. through the evening program at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, concentrating her studies on intellectual property law.
Karina is deeply committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. She has held multiple leadership and advisory roles aimed at fostering inclusive environments in the workplace, including chairing a staff affinity group, serving on a diversity committee advisory board, and contributing to firmwide DEI initiatives.
Her previous research experience includes positions as a summer research intern at Harvard University and Purdue University, a research assistant at the Center for Materials Research at Norfolk State University, and a graduate research assistant at the Howard Nanoscale Facility at Howard University.
Karina is admitted to practice in Minnesota and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Howard University, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Norfolk State University.
