Attorney Kenneth R. Gilberg, shareholder with Flaster Greenberg, member of the Labor and Employment Practice Group, and co-chair of the Automotive Industry Group, will participate in a panel entitled "An Insider's Look into Employee Absenteeism" at the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Dealers (NJ CAR) Annual Meeting and Business Expo. The panel presentation will be held at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center at the Raritan Center in Edison, New Jersey on Thursday, October 16 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
The panelists will address a variety of "real life" dealership scenarios that involve employee absences. Topics will include handling separations from employment as a result of Family Leave with an overview of New Jersey's new Paid Family Leave Act, Disability, and Workers' Comp Claims. "In this challenging economy, car dealerships, like other employers, are concerned about the economic impact of employee absences but they must be mindful of the legal restrictions when trying to control it," said Kenneth R. Gilberg.
In addition to Kenneth R. Gilberg, the other panelists are Lisa G. Cesaro, director of human resources for Open Road Auto Group, and Gene Hallenbeck, vice president of human resources for the DCH Auto Group.
Kenneth R. Gilberg represents employers in a broad range of employment, labor, and human resources issues in the workplace, such as discrimination, sexual harassment, mergers and acquisitions, work force reductions, federal and state wage and hour laws, and employment agreements. Kenneth R. Gilberg was honored by the Labor Relations Institute as one of the "Top 100 Labor Attorneys" in the United States in 2006 and 2007 and recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in 2008. He is an experienced practitioner representing management before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, National Labor Relations Board, Department of Labor and other administrative agencies. NJ CAR is a non-profit organization serving franchised new car and truck retailers throughout New Jersey. NJ CAR's primary objectives are to further any legitimate interests of its members, to keep its members informed on a variety of business matters, practices, trends and legislation, and to provide special product and services to its members.
This will be the third presentation that Kenneth R. Gilberg has made on behalf of NJ CAR on timely labor law issues this fall. In September, he presented two seminars: "You're Hired! How to Screen, Interview and Hire Employees in an Age of Litigation" and "Doing More with Less: Downsizing and Firing, Legal Do's and Don'ts" at NJ CAR headquarters in Trenton and at Flaster Greenberg's Conference Center. "In these seminars, participants leaned how to lawfully screen and select the "right" employees for their organization and how to terminate employees without fearing a wrongful discharge claim. The seminars covered the legal ramifications when hiring employees or reducing a workforce through disciplinary terminations or layoffs," said Kenneth R. Gilberg.
