Mitchell R. Cohen

Mitchell R. Cohen is counsel in Flaster/Greenberg’s Business and Corporate Law and Real Estate & Land Use Practice Groups. Mr. Cohen spearheaded the development of the firm’s interdisciplinary and dynamic Alternative and Renewable Energy Industry Group. He represents clients engaged in or considering business ventures in emerging green energy fields such as solar, wind, geothermal, cogeneration, biofuels and biomass. Mr. Cohen's clients include solar and other alternative energy developers, EPC contractors, energy consultants and renewable energy funding sources. Most recently, Mr. Cohen was appointed General Counsel to the New Jersey Renewable Energy Coalition.

He represents corporate clients in all aspects of business-related matters and transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, plant and product expansion, succession planning and divestitures. Mr. Cohen has particular experience in corporate financing, including senior debt, mezzanine and equity funding, as well as workout and restructuring financing. Mr. Cohen has represented international oil and refining companies, transportation companies, high-tech and biotech companies, medical service providers, equity funds and national lenders. 

Mr. Cohen has served as counsel to retail, office, industrial and residential developers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania with respect to acquisitions, dispositions, land use, financing, construction, leasing and property management matters. In this arena, Mr. Cohen has represented large national REITS, small developers, equity funding sources and lenders. Mr. Cohen brings into his representation of real estate clients his years of experience as a real estate developer including his role as CEO and a principal of Cohen Development Group LLC, a commercial real estate development company based in Marlton, New Jersey.

As legal counsel to developers, lenders and contractors, and in his role as an active real estate developer, Mr. Cohen has had extensive experience in the government relations aspects of land use matters. He has worked closely with municipalities and state and federal agencies, and has had significant experience with governmental funding programs.

Barrack Hebrew Academy (formerly Akiba Hebrew Academy) in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; a board member and past president of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey; a past chair of the Commercial Law Committee of the Camden County Bar Association; a past member of the board of directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey; a past member of the National Board of Directors of the American Technion Society-Israel Institute of Technology; and a past member of the board of directors of the New Jersey Remodelers Association.

Mr. Cohen is a frequent speaker in professional and community organizations as well as an active volunteer in the South Jersey community.
