Introduction to the Patent Process
OVERVIEW
Examination of patents, their critical role, their use as business assets and the development of an IP strategy consistent with business goals to enhance the success of a business. This seminar will review:
Patents:
- What are they?
- What do they do?
- What do they cover?
- How can they be used as key assets in your business?
The importance of patent strategies consistent with business goals and strategies:
- Defining business goals to develop patent strategies
- Identifying and protecting important company technology or methods of doing business consistent with those goals
- Developing IP policies and educating employees
- Evaluating existing or acquired IP properties and IP audits
- Developing a defensive patent strategy to avoid litigation when employing new technology or releasing new products
Practical considerations behind IP strategies in your business:
- When does planning begin and when is it done?
- How can knowledge of the patent environment in which you operate assist you in development and competition?
Defensive tips: How to try to avoid the patents of others, and how to proceed in the face of a potential infringement situation.
Offensive tips: So you've filed your patent application, received your first patent or competitors are infringing -- now what?
