2010 Tool Kit Series for Business Owners
You have the ideas. You have the drive. Maybe you already have the business, too. Whether you are an established small business owner, or a "some-day" entrepreneur, getting to the next level may mean getting help. But where can you turn in this economy? In South Jersey, a unique collaboration between two business incubators, a business development center and a regional law firm has resulted in the launch of numerous small businesses.
For the fifth consecutive year, the law firm of Flaster/Greenberg PC is partnering with local business incubators to provide small- and mid-sized business owners and entrepreneurs constructive advice and information on developing their businesses. The 2009-2010 series of free seminars comprises ten programs, each focusing on the unique issues small- and mid-sized business owners may face. The seminars help guide entrepreneurs from the early planning stages through the business development cycle. Other business options such as franchising and selling or entrusting your business are also discussed. (Please see the 2010 schedule below.)
One of the organization partners with Flaster/Greenberg is the NJ Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the Rutgers Institute for Management and Executive Development. Director Gary Rago says that the programs offer budding and new entrepreneurs educational, as well as practical benefits. "It's a combination of our program and the audiences themselves," he says. "We cover a wide range of topics; our speakers are familiar with the nuances of running a business; and the audiences are diverse and interested. It's the kind of information that's hard to come by, but very valuable. In my opinion, offering these educational programs at no charge is an invaluable service to the business community."
Peter S. Spirgel, managing shareholder of Flaster/Greenberg, and a popular speaker in the series, says, "This program is a highlight for us every year. As an entrepreneurial concern ourselves, we understand how hard it is to start a business and make it grow, especially in this economy. We participate in this series to underscore our commitment to the local business community, and we are happy for the opportunity."
Other sponsors of the series are Rutgers - Camden Business Incubator and the Burlington County College's High Technology Small Business Incubator and Life Science Incubator. All three sponsors invite their respective tenants and visiting entrepreneurs to the seminars and offer speakers for select programs.
